We are a social justice coalition working for local farming and sustainable communities, and against genetic engineering in BC and the Yukon. We organize local events about genetic engineering, advocate with politicians, and aim to educate the BC public about GE products.
By Becoming a Member you will get:
- A newsletter at least four times a year
- Regular e-mailings about GE events
- Knowledge that you are supporting food security, organic farming and local sustainable agricultural practices
To date we have:
- Brought together key stakeholders - farmers, ethical consumers, social activists, environmentalists, parents, educators, gardeners, seed savers and others - working against genetic engineering in BC to form an active campaigning coalition
- Organized and supported hundreds of events with speakers, films, and discussions to educate the BC public about genetically engineered products
- Been a key supporter of the Greenpeace campaign for mandatory labelling in BC of GE products
- Campaigned in 16 federal ridings as part of the national Ban Terminator campaign, led by the national anti GE group CBAN – the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network
- Hosted the CBAN AGM in October 2006
- Lobbied the Minister of Agriculture and held a public meeting about terminator seeds in his riding
- Been a key supporter of the Greenpeace campaign for mandatory labelling in BC of GE products
We need funds for our ongoing campaigns:
- Make Vancouver Island, the Kootenays and the Yukon GE Free
- Ban Terminator seeds
- Demand mandatory labelling for GE content in food
- Work to stop GE fish and trees
We are 100 per cent run by volunteers, so 100 per cent of your membership fee will go to campaigns.
